How we work
How we work
No open-ended engagements and no surprise invoices. Here is what actually happens, in order.
01
First conversation
Half an hour, free, no obligation. You describe where you live, where your income comes from and what is worrying you. We tell you what needs filing and whether you actually need us — sometimes the answer is no.
02
Scope and quote
We set out what we would do, and quote a fixed fee for it in writing. Nothing starts until you have agreed the number, and the number does not move unless the work does.
03
Onboarding
Engagement letter, identity checks, and authorisation to act with HMRC and the IRS. If you have an existing adviser we handle the handover and ask for prior years so positions carry forward correctly.
04
Information gathering
A single request list rather than a drip of emails, covering both countries at once. The better that list is met, the shorter and cheaper the engagement.
05
Preparation
Both returns prepared together, with the credit ordering and any treaty positions decided once. Where an election is finely balanced we model it rather than defaulting.
06
Review and explanation
Draft returns with the reasoning behind each significant position, in plain terms. You should understand your own filing before it goes anywhere.
07
Filing and records
Submission in both countries, confirmations to you, and the working papers kept so a later enquiry has an answer ready rather than a reconstruction.
08
The following year
We tell you what changed, what is due when, and what to do differently. Most of the value in year two is not repeating year one.
